What we Do
The Planning & Community Development Department provides a range of services to aid the community stakeholders and city officials to formulate context-sensitive land use plans and development management policies.  Ranging from long-range visioning, economic development strategy and data analysis, to current planning operations such as zoning and subdivision review, the department coordinates with other city departments and guides community stakeholders through the process of seeing projects from conception to completion.

Planning Services
Planning staff provides guidance on the Zoning Ordinance, Sign Ordinance, Landscape Ordinance, Commercial and & Multifamily Design Ordinance, Subdivision Regulations, and other land use matters. Staff also supports the Municipal Planning Commission, the Board of Zoning Appeals, and the Design Review Commission by reviewing submittals and providing a staff recommendation based on good planning principles and applicable laws, policies, and regulations.

Long Range Planning and Data Analysis
Department staff also performs long-range planning studies, analyzes data such as building permits, local demographics, and economic metrics while examining critical land use issues and making appropriate policy recommendations to meet the evolving needs of the city.
