Overview
The Economic Development Center handles all requests for signs within the City of Collegedale. Requirements for signs are governed by the Collegedale Zoning Ordinance. Nearly all signs require a permit. A copy of the Sign Permit Application is available for you to download.

Key items to note concerning signs:
- No permit fee required for political signs
- Temporary sign permit fee is $25 per sign
- Permanent sign permit fee is $50 per sign
- No signs should be installed until sign permit application has been reviewed, approved, and sign permit has been issued
- Contact 423-468-1868 to schedule UL label/electrical inspection prior to installation of lighted signs
- Signs placed in the public right of way are illegal and shall be forfeited to the public
- Signs attached to utility poles/trees/fence or fence post, and certain types of banner signs are prohibited (see the sign ordinance for complete list of prohibited signs)
- No sign permit is required for Garage Sale / Yard Sale / Estate Sale signs; however, these signs shall conform to the following:
- The sign area shall not exceed 6 square feet
- Signs may not be illuminated
- Signs shall not be placed more than 48 hours in advance of the sale, and must be removed within 48 hours of the completion of the sale
- Only one sign per street frontage, per property is allowed
